Gordon Whelan - National Head of Service Charge Accounting
Gordon has over thirty years experience as an accountant having qualified with a top twelve national firm of accountants. He has held senior and director positions in a number of owner-managed businesses and was also Group Finance Director for a publicly quoted, international software company before setting up his own practice in 2006, specialising in the audit and certification of both residential and commercial service charge accounts.
In April 2016, the practice merged with Haines Watts where Gordon now holds the role of National Head of Service Charge Accounting.
In his spare time Gordon is a keen runner (when not injured). He is also Treasurer of Southampton Athletic Club and enjoys watching all sports but particularly football, athletics and rugby.
Paul Jepps - Director of Service Charge Accounting
Paul has been working in the practice for over 20 years and has become a specialist in the Service Charge Accounting and Auditing Division. In this role he has helped build the practice to become one of the leading professional advisers in this sector in the UK.
Paul manages an experienced and dedicated team solely working in the service charge field delivering a wide range of services for managing agents, surveyors and Residential Management Companies (RMC’s) including accounts preparation and certification, auditing, tax and systems reviews.
Outside of work his interests involve many sports including going to the gym, cycling, football and skiing.
Ailsa Burkimsher Sadler - Senior Accountant
Ailsa qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2001 with a Big 4 firm. Having gained experience of property accounting working at a construction and property development company, she joined the Southampton office of Haines Watts in 2011.
Ailsa now holds the role of Senior Accountant and is responsible for the preparation of our larger and more complex residential and commercial service charge accounts as well as management of the team in Southampton.
Another football fan, outside the office Ailsa can often be found watching either her young son in his local team or Southampton FC where she is a season ticket holder. Her other pastime is reading about and researching women’s history.
Vicki Kirkcaldy - Senior Accountant
Vicki’s accountancy career started with a two partner practice in Southampton where she progressed from Office Junior to Senior Tax Manager. A Chartered Accountant and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Vicki joined our service charge team in 2010 where she now holds the position of Senior Accountant.
Her present role involves the preparation of Service Charge accounts and the management of more complex assignments including mixed used developments and mixed ownership estates. She also handles any tax matters arising for clients.
Vicki enjoys cycling and she is also kept busy managing two very active young children!
Craig Smith - Senior Accountant
Craig has worked at Haines Watts for six years specialising in service charge accounting. His work is specific to the preparation of service charge accounts and to performing service charge audits for a range of managing agents, surveyors and residential management companies.
Craig is a keen sportsman who enjoys his time playing football and cricket. He is also an avid boxing fan.
Chunwei Guo - Service Charge Accountant
Chunwei joined the Haines Watts Service Charge team in 2016 having previously spent eight years at one of the UK’s leading property management companies.
With an in-depth knowledge of preparing service charge accounts and maintaining records for small blocks and large, complex developments, she brings a new client-focused dimension to the service charge team, giving us a greater understanding of the needs and challenges our clients face.
Outside of work, Chunwei is a busy mum and always on the lookout for new activities to enjoy with her little girl.
Joy Johnston - Client Accountant
Having worked for 20 years as an office administrator and partner’s PA in the local office of another national firm of accountants, Joy joined Haines Watts in August last year on a part-time basis.
Joy’s current role involves the preparation of Service Charge and office accounts using her extensive experience of office management and administration.
Outside of work, Joy’s main interests include up-cycling old furniture and selling her handmade items at local craft fairs.
Sam Keens - Client Accountant
Sam has eight years’ accountancy experience and now specialises in Service Charge Accounting. His role includes preparing service charge accounts and producing factual findings reports along with auditing Service Charge Accounts for a range of clients, including managing agents, surveyors and residential management companies. Sam has a keen eye for detail, which is a huge asset when identifying problems that can arise when auditing and producing Service Charge Accounts.
Sam is a dedicated sports fan and a keen participant in many local sporting teams including football, cricket, rugby, badminton and triathlon competitions.
Barbara Kingston - Client Accountant
Barbara Kingston joined Gordon Whelan Associates in September 2009 to assist with the preparation of service charge accounts. The role developed into helping clients with training in the use of QuickBooks software enabling them to produce service charge accounts in a format that worked well for them and enabled us to produce accounts on a cost effective basis.
Barbara has worked with a Big Four practice as well as smaller accountancy firms and has over 40 years’ experience of working with a variety of SME clients. She has used her knowledge of accounting software to provide set-up, training and ongoing support to both clients and team members. More recently she has been involved with using on-line accounting packages for QuickBooks and Xero Accounting.
Along with her husband and daughter, Barbara is a season ticket holder and keen supporter of Southampton Football Club, and can also be found providing an airport taxi service for her son who divides his time working in the USA, Europe and the Middle East for a major cruise line.
George Whelan - Client Accountant
George joined Gordon Whelan Associates on a full-time basis after graduating from Liverpool, John Moores University with a degree in Accounting and Finance.
With two years’ experience under his belt, George’s current role as Trainee Accountant includes preparing services charge accounts, auditing and book-keeping.
In his spare time George enjoys swimming and is a season ticket holder at Everton Football Club.
Myles Dallen - Service Charge Trainee Accountant
Our newest member of the team, Myles, joined the Haines Watts Service Charge team in November 2016, shortly after completing his A-Levels.
Fulfilling a long-held ambition to become an accountant, Myles is learning his accounting skills as part of the Haines Watts training academy focusing particularly on all aspects of service charge accounting.
In his spare time Myles is a keen swimmer and also enjoys practising martial arts.
Jason Croke - VAT Consultant
Jason, our VAT Consultant, has over 13 years of indirect tax experience, specialising in property and European transactions and the not-for-profit sectors. He is Chairman of The VAT Practitioners Group (West Midlands branch) and a member of the Institute of Indirect Taxation (IIT).
Jason uses his extensive experience to help clients in a variety of trade sectors – all of which have unique and complex VAT considerations. His particular specialist areas are property and related matters including property transfers, Transfer of Going Concerns including SDLT advice and European transactions which are becoming more relevant as businesses trade across borders to grow their income streams. He also helps a wide range of clients as diverse as manufacturing, web design and data hosting.
Jason is married with one daughter, enjoys gardening, motor sports and hiking, especially in the French Alps.
